Hi everyone,
Based on presentations I held for two Dutch government committees, I wrote a new post: AI: Considerations for people who make decisions.
There is enormous pressure to deploy AI, and if you believe the thought leadership on LinkedIn, you’d think that if you don’t get on board NOW you’ll be lost forever.
Meanwhile other people severely detest AI, so much so that it damages their (worthwhile) arguments against it. This is also not helpful.
And even moderates (“just use it wisely”) are not providing actionable advice.
So, I wrote up some thoughts on what to do now & what things might best be postponed.
In the piece there are also some stimulating words on what we actually DO at the office. Because if we end up authoring large documents with AI that then get read with AI, it is unlikely that we are making any progress.
People have long observed that writing and productive thinking are intimately connected. “Writing has been called the process by which you find out you don’t know what you are talking about”. Another favorite: “If you’re thinking without writing, you only think you’re thinking”.
If we leave the writing to AI, we no longer benefit from this useful side effect of writing documents. And I estimate that most organizations should think real hard before (further) dismantling their thinking processes.
I hope AI: Considerations for people who make decisions will be of benefit to you.
And even more so than usually, I look forward to hearing your feedback (just press reply), since it is entirely possible I missed things!
Regards,
Bert
