Een CKMailer nieuwsbrief / a CKMailer newsletter

Welcome to this first message of my “Non-Nerdy” Newsletter!

Sometimes change is hard to accept. I used to argue we should try to limit European government exposure to US clouds. My expectaction was that we’d move to 95% dependence on Microsoft for email, but that we should maybe keep a small independent cloud, just in case.

Given recent US government statements on Ukraine, NATO, and the incredibly swift breakdown of the rule of law in the US, it is clear European governments and societies should no longer be moving all their technology to US clouds.

It just isn’t safe. And not only is it unsafe, since Donald Trump neutered the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB), it is also likely (soon) illegal.

It is incredibly dangerous that we are moving to a sitation where at the stroke of a pen, the Trump-Pence-Musk administration can bring down European governments, hospitals, militaries and whatnot. But we still appear to be moving in that direction, since it is “convenient”.

For more detail, please head to my latest rant: It is no longer safe to move our governments and societies to US clouds. And do share this with (government) people who need to hear this message!

Cheers,

Bert
