Attention: Foreign Affairs Committee

Dear Mrs. van der Kolk-Timmermans

I am writing to request a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Committee,
and to offer a briefing. 

I am the researcher on Afghanistan for Human Rights Watch. I’ve lived
in Afghanistan for the last two and a half years, but I’m in Europe
for the next several weeks.  Apologies for the short notice, but I could
be available to brief you on November 23rd or 24th. 

There are a range of issues that I’d be happy to brief and discuss
with you, including the elections, and the importance of the
post-election appointments. ISAF efforts to reduce civilian casualties,
as well as compensation.  The laws of war with regard to drug
traffickers as military targets. Detention practices. I’m also keen to
discuss women’s rights and freedom of expression, having done
considerable research in these areas, with reports on both due to be
published in December and the New Year. I’ll happily take questions on
any other areas.
