Deiyai, TAPANEWS.com – Petrus Youw and Yohanes, two local reporters from Nabire claimed that they were mistreated by Polda Papua Joint Unit Team and Nabire Police District Special Team when covering the shooting of OPM Commander (Paniai) Leonardus Magai Yogi and his two colleagues who were shot during the gunfire in Senoba Atas Village, Nabire District, Thursday (30/4).

“Johanes Kuayo and I were arrested and mistreated by Polda Papua Joint Unit Team and Nabire Police District Special Team when covering the shooting of Loenardus Magai Yogi and his two colleagues who were shot during the gunfire. At the time we were in front of Emergency Unit of Nabire Local Hospital, Friday (1/5),” stated Petrus Youw, one of the reporter from a local media in Nabire, Saturday, (2/5) morning.

Petrus further stated that in that same place, at around 12 o’clock, Joyanes Kuayo, reporter from majalahselangkah.com was also arrested, his camera was confiscated and he was beaten up by the Polda Papua Special Team and Nabire Police District. He regretted the actions of the rogue police officials as it hindered journalistic work.

“The Emergency Unit room was heavily guarded and no visitors were allowed to visit the sick,” stated Petrus.

According to Petrus, health officials of the Emergency Unit that were indigenous Papuans were instructed to go home, and only non-Papuans stayed to guard. Indigenous Papuans did not have access to visit family who were treated in the Emergency Unit.
