The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK) was informed by SIDN last autumn about a study conducted by the foundation regarding future (cloud) solutions for their domain name services, based on which SIDN itself has a preference for an American company. Given the unique position of SIDN, operating from the trust of the Dutch internet community, the Ministry of EZK expects the foundation to broadly consult and inform their stakeholders if a (proposed) decision follows from such a study. Not only for transparency but also in the context of, for example, strategic autonomy, it is important to know what the dependencies are. SIDN has committed to doing this. The Ministry of EZK also contacted the supervisory authority RDI, today. SIDN falls under the Network and Information Systems Security Act (Wbni) and thus under the cybersecurity supervision of the RDI. The RDI will engage in a discussion with SIDN about the continuity, stability, and reliability of domain name services, including the future situation as a result of this proposed decision.
